What is virtual reality or in short VR ?
- There is only one way to answer to this question i,e "In a 4 dimensional world its an un-describable amazing 3D experience that you can get in virtual world and pass the final dimension (time) as if it was not even there " WOW....
-How ever,'VR' was not easily available to the normal people, 3d TV's are costly and are not affordable by many but it is not the case now. we have "Google Cardboard".
Google Cardboard - A simple at amazing concept by google its just a piece of cardboard and lenses. you can build it in home itself (though i recommend buying redy made case of precision it costs around 6$ or 350Rs) just download plans from the google official page (click here for official plan download from google), download the app from play store now you are ready to go!!!!...
Actually what you need actually : Well the problem is all the mobiles (smart phone ) will not support there VR applications it needs 2 sensors mainly. That is
1) Gyroscope (this helps in tracking your head in different directions)
2) compass (same that shows direction)
3)Android 4.0 or higher.(I phones are also supported)
What it has??
If you look closely it actually has nothing, just a piece of "fancy" cardboard, a magnet on one side, two biconvex lenses and a slot to hold your phone isn't it amazing!!!
(some higher version contains a NFS tag to kick start the vr app)
How it works?
It's very simple to use, you just have to download the application available on play store from a practically million choice slide your phone in the cardboard box and you are good to go...
In normal, 3D experience is to trick the brain with two colored images (red and blue normally) overlaped on each other with small saperation, but mobile screen is not designed to handled that intensity at all. So the google came up with simpe yet very effective solution that is to show two different images on split screen separated by a thin line as you can see below.

While wearing the box on, you only see one image and tiny difference on screen you can't make it with bear eyes. These apps are practically useless without VR head mount box also I need to mention these apps are nonparallel with VR head mount.
My experience I'm an Android user for the past five years now I use Red-mi Note 4g.It has a 5.5 inch 720p resolution screen, it has all the sensors required for this.Using this cardboard has been a great pleasure and time pass experience.
I bought the cardboard from the amazon India (click here to visit the link). App runs smoothly no issues in tearms of developers once phone is slided into the box touching screens is off limits to provide any input to the phone only inputs it takes is from your neck that is orientation and magnetic
button provided on left side of the device as you can see in the picture it has a small arrangement to move the magnet creating a flash of magnetic flux around the top of the phone, as I said earlier there is a requirment of compass as itresponds to the change in flux around it causing it an input. I was amazed how it works. There are many apps on play store to keep you entertained. I have experienced 3D on theaters couple of times but this was the very closest thing to that experience I had. You can feel thereality on virtual reality cause on flat screens or theaters you have to stare a screen in same directind all the time but its not the case on phones where ever you look the screen will follow your head, you can see the projected images very close to the reality.
The problems I faced are not so great compared to what it has to offer never the less to mention a few.
- Eyes will strain for usage more than 15-30 minutes .
- As assembly of phone and box is quit a much making funny marks on nose (which wear off after few minutes)
- You need some getting use to work with magnet some times it jumps off from the slot.
- Since it is card board there is always risk of slipping phones from the slot if not handelled carefully.
